About Me

I’m a forest school leader, forager and environmental educator from Bristol. I have a passion for the natural world and getting others to reconnect with it. I have become fascinated with the topic of societal rewilding and am going to embark on a journey to learn and educate others on this topic. My ambition is to reconnect children and adults to the natural world and help to rewild our society, so together we can look towards a healthier and brighter future for all.

COMMUNITY FARMING & SUSTAINABLE LIVING We have be COMMUNITY FARMING & SUSTAINABLE LIVING

We have been lucky enough to partner with @stwerburghscityfarm for a session on community farming and living sustainably.

St Werburgh’s, a gorgeous and unique borough of Bristol, is known for its vibrant and diverse community. Often attracting people who seek a slightly more alternative way of living, this area of Bristol is filled with those who thrive for living in harmony with the environment and perhaps ‘sticking-it’ to the status quo.

Nestled in the heart of the suburb is the city farm, that inspires and educates people from all walks of life on the story of food, of nature and of connecting to the community.

Their site consists of a 2-acre small holding which houses farm yard animals and their unique café, a community garden and allotments and a conservation area named boiling wells.

Our session with the farm will introduce the children to the animal rearing and managing a small holding. They will be experiencing first hand what it takes to own and farm animals, and be introduced to the life cycle of animals who live on a farm and where our food ‘really’ comes from. A big focus of this session will also be on how the farm fits into the wider community, and what it brings to its neighbouring residents and to the rest of the city.

Our session will continue into the Boiling Wells site and the children will learn how the farm is trying to be a sustainable project and its efforts to become carbon neutral. Conversations will be had as to how we can all do our bit of the planet and try and live in an environmental conscious and sustainable way.

There is still time to book onto our programme. Spaces are limited, head to my website to find out more (link in bio).

FORAGING As a child, although I was out in the wi FORAGING

As a child, although I was out in the wilderness a lot, I knew little about all the edible plants and fungi found abundantly in the countryside (and urban parks) all around me.
Aside from the yearly blackberry picking, I was totally unaware of the wonderous feeling of foraging for edible plant life, weeds and mushrooms. From experience, children LOVE the act of foraging. They love learning about the plants and weeds they see often, and the amazing edible and medicinal properties they hold.

This is why it was very important for me to include this in the upcoming Home Education Programme.

For me foraging isn’t just about the produce you gain at the end of a morning out in the woods, it is the mindfulness and excitement that comes with it. With your eyes fixed to the ground, a busy mind has little time to overthink your problems and worries. This is such a mindful activity in which you get lost in.

In addition to this, the excitement of discovering something new or rare (particularly with mushrooms) is truly an adrenaline filled moment.

I think this activity taps into something innate in all of us.

In the same way a treasure hunt excites children and adults a-like, foraging does the same thing.

During our programme we will be introducing foraging and plant identification, and this will be a big focus through much of the course. Children’s ability to see things as they really are, and not to intellectualise what they are seeing as the adult brain often does, means they are a dab hand at foraging and often have the upper hand when it comes to locating the goods!

I am looking forward to igniting a passion for foraging in our small group of home educated children, something I know I would have loved as a child and am now making up for later in life.

ASHTON COURT I feel incredibly lucky to be able t ASHTON COURT

I feel incredibly lucky to be able to live fairly centrally in Bristol and still have this place right on my doorstep.

Ashton Court Estate is over 850 acres of ancient woodland and grassland just on the outskirts of Bristol. It has an amazingly varied landscape and is home to two huge herds of both Red deer and Fallow deer.

It has a very special place in my heart, which is why I am delighted to using this space for some of the sessions of the Home Education Programme. After some lengthy deliberations, the programme has been postponed and will now be commencing on the 3rd of March.

With the fairer weather and more opportunities that spring brings, we are excited to introduce this new start date and everything we have planned for the programme!

We have an EARLY BIRD offer running until the 1st of February, so get your booking’s in early to grab this deal!

FAILURE This has been a big word for me recently. FAILURE

This has been a big word for me recently.

For a lot of people, January is a time to set new goals, embark on the next big aspiration or try and better yourself for the year to come.

For me, these first few weeks of January have been filled with a lack of confidence, stress and a feeling of failure and hopelessness.

I want to be open and honest about this because I know how important it has been for me when I see others doing the same.

Failure is a topic that is rarely talked about, however feeling a sense of failure or experiencing this, is something that everyone will run in to at some point in their life.
A ‘sense of failure’ and actual failure are two very different things.

Having a sense of failure is something many may be feeling when comparing themselves to others, especially in this time of ‘bettering ourselves’ and setting those January goals. A sense of failure in this respect can be damaging to our self-worth and confidence, and it is important to try to not compare ourselves to others. This is often very difficult in the social media world we all find ourselves in.

Failure on the other hand, although is often seen as a negative, often leads to the most positive and rewarding outcomes. Failing, understanding your failure and growing from this is an important stage in creating greatness. This is something we should all be striving to experience, and allowing and encouraging our children to do so too.

So, what I wanted to achieve with these ramblings is this – if you are feeling worried or confused at this time, I hear you and this is totally normal. It is likely that during this time, when your whole sense of being and life ambitions is questioned by yourself and others, that you may experience this feeling of pressure to change or a sense of failure.
I want to highlight that you are not failing, and even if you are in some sense, see this as a blessing. From this, good things will happen.

I will leave you with the very wise words of Elizabeth Day- “Understanding why we fail, ultimately make us stronger, because learning how to fail in life actually means learning how to succeed better.”

Happy bean in the sun beams 🤗 Soak up that sun Happy bean in the sun beams 🤗

Soak up that sun when you can. January can be a tough month for lots of us, so take those moments that will add some joy to your day.

Immerse yourself in nature
Take a chilly dip
Feel the sun on your face
Crunch the frosty morning grass
Splash in puddles

Keep your eyes peeled for those signs of spring. They will be here before you know!

Oh and all go out and look at the moon right now. She's a beauty 🌕
