The fact that Mugwort sounds a little like a harry potter character is quite fitting, as it is seeped with magical mythology and is linked to the art of lucid dreaming.
Mugwort is a common weed whose history is wound within a mystical realm. However, it has proven versatility with its multiple benefits to human health such as boosting digestion, reducing anxiety and aiding relaxation.
It is normally made into a tea, however I have stumbled across a recipe in which mugwort is infused through hot chocolate which seems fitting for a pre-bedtime beverage.
Mugwort grows well in disturbed ground so tends to be found on edges of footpaths, along roadsides and in wasteland. Once you can identify it you will spot it everywhere!
The leaves are the distinctive part of this plant, with a trio of leaflets at the top of the leaf with pairs of smaller leaflets beneath (there are more pairs depending on the size of the leaf). The true distinction of this leaf is the pale, almost white underside, which is very noticeable as the plant blows in the wind.
Pinkish red flower spikes protrude on reddish stems from the top of the plant that can reach up to 1m in height.
Mugwort Hot Chocolate
You can use any hot chocolate recipe you desire and then just seep a couple of the plant tops into the simmering chocolate for 2-3 minutes to allow the flavours to infuse. It gives the hot chocolate a lovely earthy, almost herby flavour, reducing the sweetness of the hot chocolate in the most lovely way! Plus you will hopefully feel those magical effects of relaxation and enhanced dreams.
The recipe I used is included below.
Mugwort is described as a dream enhancer. It intensifies dreams and, with some practice, can enable the art of lucid dreaming. Its main effects:
If you tend to forget your dreams, mugwort can help you to recall bits of dreams, and will help you to remember more of the narrative of the dream.
Mugwort can also intensify the colours of dreams
It can also introduce other senses into dreams such as taste, touch and smell, making dreams not soley a visual experience
If you already have good dream recall, this is where mugwort can be used for lucid dreaming and having control of your dreams.
Lucid dreaming will not happen over-night, it takes time and practice to master the art.
I have never had much recall with dreams, and if I do remember them they are forgotten in a few seconds. I look forward to experimenting with mugwort to see how I can develop my dream practices in the future.
