About Me

I’m a forest school leader, forager and environmental educator from Bristol. I have a passion for the natural world and getting others to reconnect with it. I have become fascinated with the topic of societal rewilding and am going to embark on a journey to learn and educate others on this topic. My ambition is to reconnect children and adults to the natural world and help to rewild our society, so together we can look towards a healthier and brighter future for all.

Nature has been a sanctuary for myself and many others during this past year. Nature is consistent and reliable. Its peaceful predictability is grounding. We are nature. Hence, why we find so much peace and contentment when immersed in it. Looking to nature and all that it provides for us, is the answer to most of of our modern life problems. With over 100 walks to choose from you are spoilt for choice. Myself and the Sea Mills and Combe Dingle climate group have launched a nature trail with Walk Fest in anticipation of the upcoming COP26. This beautiful trail runs along the River Trym and is full of amazing nature and climate facts to find along the way. Unhappy Earth Day 🌎😒 Our earth is not happy Unhappy Earth Day 🌎😒 Our earth is not happy, and we need to stop pretending that it is. Today instagram is filled with beautiful pictures of oceans, forests, wildlife and rivers to celebrate Earth Day, however is that truly what we see? I’m not saying nature isn’t spectacular, I am saying these snapshots are a small percentage of what is truly going on. Earth day is a day of celebration for this amazing planet we all live on. Unfortunately, the human race predominately sees nature, and all that it provides, as a commodity. A quote from the beautiful book – ‘Overstorey by Richard Powers’ articulates this perfectly. “No one see trees. We see fruit, we see nuts, we see wood, we see shade. We see ornaments or pretty fall foliage. Obstacles blocking the road or wrecking the ski slope. Dark threatening places that must be cleared. We see branches about to crush our roof. We see cash crop. But trees themselves – trees are invisible.” We as a species need to change our relationship with earth. We need to see it for its miraculous beauty. We need to stop the continuous consumption, and give back; reinvent, rejuvenate and rewild what we have destroyed. If you do anything this Earth Day, I would encourage you to see. See earth and its natural abundance for what it is, and for all that it does for us. Remember that what is left, is only a fraction of what it once was, and what it will be become if we continue business as usual. I urge you to see your place within nature, and how your consumption effects it. Today you will be bombarded with ‘sustainable greenwashing initiatives’ that urge you to buy their ‘green’ alternatives. Consumption is consumption no matter the material, brand or ethos. It’s up to us to change, so that next year we might truly be able to say it is a Happy Earth Day. Stop taking, start giving back. AS PROMISED – MAGNOLIA SPRING ROLLS Wow, these AS PROMISED – MAGNOLIA SPRING ROLLS Wow, these did not disappoint! Earlier in the week I had made pickled Magnolia – this seems to be the most common thing to do with these gingery petals. This very Asian taste inspired me to whip up some veggie spring rolls. Surprisingly simple to make, these will definitely be made again! I have included a recipe below for the pickle and my spring roll ingredients, but really you can add any filling you desire. I added the pickled magnolia both into the mix and as a condiment along with your dip of choice. I went for hoisin :D Have you used Magnolia in cooking or baking before? Leave a comment if you have… I’m really enjoying this Magnolia hype and would love to experiment some more! Magnolia Pickle - 80g Magnolia Petals - 150ml Apple cider vinegar - 1tsp Salt - 50g Sugar 1. Heat the vinegar, sugar and salt until the sugar has melted 2. Break off the petals from the inner base. 3. Finely slice the petals and add to pan, stirring until fully submerged 4. Store in a sterilised jar in the fridge for up to a year.
